The first half of the match from Budapest didn't have clear goal opportunities. Surdu had a good possibility in 10th minute, but he was pushed by Serbian Lambulic. Újpest had the first good opportunity in 19th minute, when Tătărușanu rejected into corner the strong shot of Tisza. Nicolita had a good chance too in 21st minute, but his header, after the cross of Szekely, passed over the post. Tătărușanu had a very good intervention in 29th minute, at the cross of Vermes. The match lost then from consistency, being many interruptions and injuries. Hungarian Kabat broke his head at a duel with Golanski and left to locker room in 40th minute, with blood pouring on his face. In Újpest's box, Vasko and Bicfalvi have injured each other, the first half having 6 minutes of additional time. Bicfalvi hasn't returned from the locker room, being replaced by Onicaș. Seconds half started with a delay of 20 minutes, because of the incidents occurring in the tribunes between the galleries of the two teams: the Hungarians have thrown with torches to the sector of Steaua's fans, who fought back and broke a fence and thrown then with different objects. The gendarmes intervened with tear gas and water and the match finally restarted. In 57th minute, after a cross from Stancu, Nicolita resumed from a very small angle, goalkeeper Balajcza being obliged to reject the ball into corner. Steaua opened the score in 58th minute: Toja crossed from left side to Stancu, blocked by goalkeeper, but the ball came to Szekely, who pushed it into the net: 0-1. Újpest had the chance to level the score right away, but Tătărușanu rejected excellent the ball sent by Pollák (60), after a cross from Rajczi. Coach Cristiano Bergodi made an inspired move, sending Polish Grzelak on the field, who scored at the first touch of the ball, in 66th minute, at the cross of Stancu, from right side: 0-2. Three minutes later, Tătărușanu rejected very well the shot of Tisza, from about 26 meters. Újpest reduced the difference in 82nd minute, through Vasko, the defender heading the ball into the net from the edge of small box, after a corner executed by Tisza: 1-2. The final of the match found Újpest in attack, in the attempt to obtain a honorable result. Steaua succeeded a deserved qualification, after a very good second half. Because they were booked, Toja and Petre Marin are suspended for the next match from Europa League. In the third preliminary round, Steaua will play against Motherwell FC.

Cristiano Bergodi, coach of Steaua: "Újpest caused us problems at the final of the match, when we were a little relaxed. I am not pleased because we received goal. We deserved this qualification, especially after the good game we made in second half. It wasn't an extraodinary match, but everything ended well. I don't think that the night spent outside the hotel because of bomb threat has affected us in any way".

Steaua București won 4-1 on aggregate
