History:
Municipal club formed in 1971. But the history of the football from Buzău started before 1938 (year of formation of Divizia C), when Avântul played in seasons 1936-1937 and 1937-1938 in South League. After World War II, Avântul ICAR played in season 1946-1947 in Divizia C, then CFR Buzău had two appearances in 1947-1948 in Divizia B and 1948-1949 in Divizia C; after 1949, Buzău wasn't represented in any division almost for one decade. In 1958 it appeared, in Divizia C, Victoria club, which will promote in summer of 1959 in second division, but will resist here just one year. It followed again a pause till 1966, when Buzău had a new team in third division, Metalul. In 1971 it was formed Gloria which has taken the players and the place in Divizia C of Metalul. The team succeeded to rank on first place in season 1971-1972 and promoted in Divizia B, coach being Petre Dragomir. Starting with this season, Gloria will have 30 appearances in the three divisions: 2 in Divizia C, 23 in Divizia B and 5 in Divizia A. At the final of the season1977-1978, Gloria promoted, for the first time, in Divizia A, with coach Ion Gh. Ionescu and this squad: Cristian, Enache, Ghizdeanu, Nan, Neculce, Negoescu, Nicolae, Nicolescu, Oprisan, Petrache, Radu, Ruse, Simion, Stan, Stelian, Toma, Tulpan, Vlad. The first presence in Divizia A was for two seasons Second appearance was between 1984-1987. The promotion took place at the end of season 1983-1984, the team being led by coaches Nicolae Lupescu and Ion Ioniță, the squad being formed by: Cristian, Lazăr, Comănescu, Tică, Dumitru, Stănciulescu, Mircea, Prodan, Șumulanschi, Zahiu, Andriesei, Cramer, Năstase, Bratosin, Petrache, Ciobanu, Balaur, Ghizdeanu, Niță, Radu, Stanciu. In season 1984-1985 Gloria obtained the best performance from the history of the club, 5th place in Divizia A. At the final of season 1986-1987, Gloria relegated in Divizia B, and didn't succeed anymore to return in first league.

After 1990, Gloria didn't succeed to promote in first division, closer being in 2003, when lost the play-off against Poli AEK Timisoara, 3-5 away (2-0 at a moment !) and 1-3 home. The best player after the Revolution was Ion Viorel. Other players who played well in last years were Costel Petre - defender, Adrian Oancia - defender, Romică Stan - midfielder, Dumitru Gheorghe - striker, Iulian Apostol - midfielder, Salih Jaber - striker. The biggest name transferred in last time was striker Romeo Buteseacă, the player who eliminated Rapid in Romanian Cup, when he was player of Dacia Unirea Brăila.
